Your face is always moving. Filler should look natural when you smile, speak, and laugh, as well as when your features are at rest. At SKY Facial Plastic Surgery in San Diego, RHA is Dr. Sirius K. Yoo’s preferred filler because its flexible properties allow it to adapt to natural facial movements. As a double-board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Yoo personally performs injectable treatments and develops each plan around the patient’s facial structure, expressions, and aesthetic goals. His conservative approach helps restore volume or soften facial wrinkles without adding more filler than your features need.

RHA stands for Resilient Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body, where it helps the skin retain moisture and volume. Dermal fillers use a specially formulated version of hyaluronic acid to add volume beneath the skin, smooth wrinkles and folds, or refine facial features.
The RHA Collection is manufactured through a process designed to preserve more of the long chains found in natural hyaluronic acid. This gives the gel flexibility, allowing it to stretch and compress with the surrounding tissues. FDA-approved RHA products can treat moderate to severe dynamic facial wrinkles and folds in adults aged 22 and older. Certain formulations are also approved for the lips or cheeks.

RHA fillers work by placing resilient hyaluronic acid beneath the skin to support tissue, restore volume, or soften a crease. Dynamic wrinkles are lines that become more noticeable during facial expressions. Nasolabial folds, marionette lines, creases around the mouth, and lines that form across the cheeks while smiling can all be affected by repeated facial movements.
Some other dermal fillers are deliberately firmer because they are intended to provide greater structural support. RHA places particular emphasis on adaptability. Dr. Yoo prefers its flexible characteristics for many patients because the filler can move with expressive facial areas, producing results that remain natural both in motion and at rest.

The RHA Collection includes several formulations with different levels of flexibility and support. Dr. Yoo selects the appropriate product based on your cosmetic concerns, anatomy, treatment area, and desired degree of correction. He may use one formulation or combine products as part of a comprehensive facial rejuvenation plan.
RHA Redensity is a lightweight formulation designed to treat moderate to severe dynamic lines around the mouth. It may be used for fine vertical lip lines and other superficial wrinkles that become more visible as the mouth moves.
RHA 2 can be placed in the mid-to-deep dermis to treat moderate dynamic facial wrinkles and folds. Its flexible consistency allows it to soften lines while preserving natural movement in the surrounding tissue.
RHA 3 provides additional support for moderate to severe wrinkles and facial folds, including nasolabial folds. It’s also FDA approved for lip augmentation and may be used to improve fullness, refine the lip border, or support the corners of the mouth.
RHA 4 is a more robust formulation used to treat severe dynamic wrinkles and deeper facial folds. Its greater volumizing capacity may also provide support for selected areas of the cheeks or midface.
Depending on the selected formulation and Dr. Yoo’s recommendation, RHA filler treatment may help:
RHA can soften lines and restore volume without surgery, but it can’t reposition significantly descended facial tissues or remove loose skin. Attempting to create a surgical degree of lift with too much filler may produce a heavy or overfilled appearance. If laxity is the primary concern, Dr. Yoo may recommend another nonsurgical treatment, fat transfer, or facial surgery.

Good candidates are adults aged 22 or older who want to soften expression lines, restore selected areas of volume, or refine their facial features without surgery. Patients should have realistic expectations, understand that results are temporary, and have healthy skin without an active infection, inflammation, irritation, or acne outbreak in the treatment area.
Share your complete medical history with Dr. Yoo, including previous filler treatments, allergies, medications, and certain supplements that may increase bruising. RHA may not be appropriate for people with bleeding disorders, multiple severe allergies, or allergies to ingredients in the selected product. Safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established, so treatment is generally postponed.
Dr. Yoo begins by examining your face at rest and during expression. After discussing your aesthetic goals and medical history, he will identify the facial areas to be treated and select the appropriate RHA formulation, injection depth, and amount of product.
The skin is cleansed before treatment. RHA products contain a local anesthetic, and additional numbing may be used for comfort. Dr. Yoo places the filler with a fine needle or cannula, reassessing your facial balance throughout the procedure rather than injecting a predetermined amount automatically.

Most patients return to their usual activities shortly after treatment. Temporary redness, tenderness, firmness, bruising, or swelling can occur at the injection site. An ice pack may help reduce swelling when used according to SKY’s instructions. Patients may be advised to avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, extensive heat, and prolonged sun exposure during the first 24 hours.
Tell Dr. Yoo if you take blood thinners, medications, or certain supplements that can prolong bleeding. Do not stop a prescription medication unless the clinician who prescribed it tells you to do so. Dermal fillers also carry rare but serious risks, including vascular occlusion. Contact SKY immediately if you experience unusual pain, changes in skin color, or visual symptoms after treatment.
RHA filler results are visible immediately after injection, although swelling may temporarily make the treated area look fuller than expected. As the swelling subsides, the filler begins to look more integrated with the surrounding tissue. Optimal results depend on choosing the right product, placing it at the appropriate depth, and using an amount that fits your natural structure.
Depending on the formulation, treatment area, and individual patient, results may last up to 15 months. Longevity can also be affected by injection depth, facial movement, metabolism, and the amount of product used. Dr. Yoo may recommend a follow-up appointment before determining whether any additional refinement is appropriate.

RHA and other HA fillers can add volume and soften wrinkles, but individual products differ in flexibility, firmness, and lifting capacity. A firmer filler may be useful when structural support is the priority. Dr. Yoo often chooses RHA in dynamic areas where natural movement is especially important.
Neuromodulators like Botox, Xeomin, and Daxxify work differently by reducing selected muscle activity rather than restoring volume. RHA may be combined with these or other treatments when a patient has several causes of facial aging.

RHA fillers offer a flexible way to soften dynamic facial folds, restore selected areas of volume, and refine your features while preserving natural expression. At SKY Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. Yoo personally evaluates and treats every injectable patient.

RHA fillers are designed to adapt to facial movements. Natural-looking results also depend on careful product selection, appropriate injection technique, and conservative dosing.
No filler is right for every treatment area. Dr. Yoo prefers RHA for many patients because of its dynamic properties, but firmer fillers or other treatments may be more appropriate for certain goals.
Yes. Because RHA is a hyaluronic acid filler, it may be dissolved with an injectable enzyme called hyaluronidase when medically appropriate.
Cost depends on the RHA formulation, amount of product needed, and areas treated. SKY provides a personalized quote after Dr. Yoo completes your evaluation.
Yes. RHA can be combined with neuromodulators and other treatments when they address different cosmetic concerns. Dr. Yoo will recommend an appropriate treatment sequence and schedule.
Clinical trials support the safety of RHA fillers for their approved uses, but all injections carry risks. Common effects include temporary swelling, bruising, tenderness, and redness. Choosing a qualified medical professional with detailed knowledge of facial anatomy is an important part of reducing and managing risk.
